Is Labiaplasty Right For Me?

If you have a labia majora that is bothering you, and it is impacting your ability to enjoy sex or if your pubic area is not as flat as you would like, then you may be wondering if labiaplasty (or labioplasty) is right for you. There are three types of labiaplasty surgeries that can be performed: labioplasty (or lipoplasty), labium reduction (or reduction), and labioscopic enhancement. Labiaplasty usually refers to an operation for improving the aesthetic appearance of the labia minora and vulva.

Patients seeking labiaplasty are those whose labia minora are painful or unsightly. The most common symptom of labiaplasty is discomfort from the labia. This discomfort may be felt during sexual intercourse or while urinating. Other symptoms include itchiness, redness, and thickening. In some cases, labiaplasty is an effective treatment for labiaplasty.

As with any cosmetic procedure, labiaplasty requires that you be at least 16 years old and have a normal healthy body weight. You will also need to be committed to having the procedure done. A board certified plastic surgeon will be the one to perform the labiaplasty surgery. You will be in the surgery room with your plastic surgeon and ask for instructions. The doctor will assess the extent of your labiaplasty and give you a list of instructions that you must follow.

After six weeks to one month, you will have to return to the office for a follow up visit. During your visit, your plastic surgeon will reassess the success rate of your labiaplasty and discuss the results. If you had labia that was too tight, you may be instructed to take steps to reduce the tension in the area. If you had labia that were too loose, then you may be instructed to take steps to strengthen the skin surrounding your labia. The surgeon will make these suggestions to you and give you written instructions for doing it.

You may be asked to use special sexual intercourse garments for a time after your surgery. This is because the stitches from this type of surgery are not extremely durable. In fact, it takes about three months for the stitches to dissolve and for the skin to heal. You may experience some discomfort, swelling and a slight discomfort after the stitches are removed. This discomfort will subside as the healing process continues. You will probably want to wear some comfortable, loose clothing after your labia minora surgery, such as boxer shorts.

The length and width of your vaginal lips will most likely not change dramatically after you have had Labiaplasty performed. In fact, they may even become tighter if you do not use special sexual intimacy garments for at least three months following your surgical procedure. But, this shouldn’t be a cause for any discomfort or inconvenience during your daily activities.
